Paid playtests

Remote game tester jobs

Metagaming's remote game tester jobs are paid playtests: you test an unreleased game build from home, follow the studio's test plan, and report what you find. Each playtest is a mission paid per task. It's open to trainers at Elite rank and above, and it's extra money, not a salaried job.

The playtest

What a paid playtest involves

  1. 01

    Accept the mission

Each playtest mission says what the studio wants tested and what it pays before you accept it.

  2. 02

    Play the build

Play the unreleased build at home on your own setup, following the test plan: a level, a feature, a set of menus.

  3. 03

    Report what you find

Write up bugs with clear steps to reproduce them, and answer the studio's questions about how the game felt.

  4. 04

    Get paid per task

The playtest pays once your report passes quality review. Work that doesn't pass isn't paid, and you're told why.

Rank and pay

Elite rank and up

Playtests open at Elite rank, the third of five. Everyone starts as a Rookie, and proven skill and consistently good work on missions move you up. Studios trust Elite trainers with unreleased builds because they've shown they follow instructions and report carefully.

Elite rank also opens Epic drops, an estimated $50 per task. That's the tier playtests and other long sessions sit in. Every mission shows its pay before you accept it. Rates are estimates, market rates can fluctuate, and we don't promise income. See all pay rates.

Playtests are per-task work. There are no set hours and no salary: you take the playtests that suit you, when they're available.
